Research Associate - Department of Biosystems Engineering & Soil Sciences (UTIA)

Job Description:

This position is to work mainly as a laboratory-based researcher to investigate microbial communities associated with plants in contaminated soils. The selected candidate is expected to analyze soil properties, measure contaminants, quantify and characterize soil microbes using molecular microbial ecology methods, organize and analyze data, prepare reports, attend meetings, and discuss findings with collaborators. We are looking for an energetic, focused, and detail-oriented candidate with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. This is a federally funded project, so the position will be terminated with the cessation of the funding.


Qualifications :

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree in Microbiology, Environmental Science, Soil Science, Biology, or related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience working in an environmental science or microbiology laboratory is required.
  • Masters degree in lieu of experience is considered.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, excellent work ethic, ability to work independently and collaboratively, and demonstrated skills in analytical instrumentation are also required.
Location:

Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science (BESS), University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN. The research associate will be supervised by Dr. Jennifer DeBruyn (Lab website) and work closely with collaborators at the Center for Agricultural Synthetic Biology (CASB).
