Description
The University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Clinical Instructor and Assistant Director of its new Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology program. The incumbent will be responsible for working directly with the faculty Director (DVM) to assist in the development and implementation of a new four-year Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology degree program. The Assistant Director will share the responsibilities with the Director for daily operational planning, oversight and assessment of the program, to include hiring and training instructors and faculty, serving as an integral member of the program leadership team, playing a central role in the AVMA CVTEA program accreditation process, and teaching within the curriculum.
Typical Responsibilities:
PROGRAM LEADERSHIP
· Assist the Director with recruiting, hiring, and developing full-time and part-time instructors to support delivery of the curriculum.
· Assist the Director in ongoing efforts to monitor and evaluate measures of student success, to include retention, performance outcomes, graduation and employment.
· Work collaboratively to develop student support programs.
· Oversee high-quality academic advisement provided to students.
· Assist the Director to ensure that the program meets AVMA CVTEA requirements as well as institutional accreditation standards.
· Serve as the faculty liaison/advisor for SCNAVTA (Student Chapter of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America).
· Serve on other college and institute/university committees relevant to position, interdepartmental collaboration and strategic planning.
· Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure consistency in delivery of educational content amongst faculty in the Veterinary Technology Program.
· Consult with campus academic and administrative departments as needed.
· Develop remedial program offerings as needed.
· Work with Academic and Student Affairs and other relevant units to collaboratively engage all stakeholders and maintain communication channels.
CURRICULUM LEADERSHIP
· Assist the program leadership team in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the four-year curriculum, to include curriculum mapping to the AVMA CVTEA Essential Skills and the AAVMC Competency-Based Veterinary Nursing Education Framework.
MISCELLANEOUS
· Teach in the pre-clinical curriculum as required, based on experience and expertise.
· Assist instructors and others in the development, implementation, and assessment of clinical skills acquisition throughout the pre-clinical and clinical curriculum.
· Serve as a subject matter expert in veterinary technology/veterinary nursing.
· Ability to foster a robust network within the veterinary medical community.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
· Must be a graduate of an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) CVTEA- accredited program with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Veterinary Technology
· Must have a Master's degree in Teaching, Education, Leadership, Management, Biomedical Sciences, or related field
· Minimum ten (10) years of occupational (i.e., practical) experience within the veterinary field
· Current Licensure as a Veterinary Technician or ability to become licensed within the State of TN
Desired Competencies:
· Expert knowledge of Veterinary Medical Technology/ Veterinary Nursing
· Ability to effectively problem-solve
· Ability to develop and implement programs, protocols, and policies
· Ability to work on-site with occasional travel, as needed
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Strong analytical skills
· Excellent computer skills and project management skills
· Familiarity with learning management systems

· Strong level of understanding of AVMA CVTEA Accreditation requirements
· Strong level of expertise in contemporary opportunities and challenges in the field of veterinary medicine and veterinary technology education
Preferred Qualifications:
· Minimum of 5 years of veterinary education experience with both DVM and Veterinary Technology students
· Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) Credential
