Post Doctoral Associate - Chemistry
Chemistry - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (24002910)

Job Description:

A postdoctoral scholar position in the Department of Chemistry is available in the Carter-Fenk group at the University of Pittsburgh.

Description of the research:

The postdoctoral scholar will conduct research in the domain of quantum chemistry method development with applications in energy sciences. The focal point of this research will be in the development of many-body perturbation theory approaches that are capable of informing the spectroscopy of transition metal complexes and related photocatalysts, coding these new methods into a widely available quantum chemistry software package, and applying the methods to chemical problems in collaboration with experimental researchers. These methods will be based primarily on black-box extensions of algebraic diagrammatic construction and related perturbative unitary coupled-cluster approaches that address the static correlation problem. Other areas of research that the postdoctoral research may entail include the development of multilayer models for electrocatalysis at the solid/liquid interface and fragment-based excited state algorithms for accurate and efficient assessments of photochemical dynamics in the liquid phase.
The interested applicant can expect inclusive, hands-on mentorship and personalized training that will be tailored to their particular career goals. Interested postdocs will receive training not just in research, but also in teaching and mentoring. There will also be opportunities to attend professional conferences to present their research and to build a network.
