Summary:

This is a 9-month, full-time, campus-based, faculty position in the Psychology Department, School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), with responsibilities for teaching, course development, and student advising and mentoring. Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, student recruitment, retention, and placement efforts; program assessment; and engagement in the life of the university. In accordance with the University's faculty workload policy, teaching responsibilities include 30 credit/contact hours per academic year and service as an academic advisor. Optional opportunities for engagement in the life of the university are available. The Lecturer is a fully engaged member of the Psychology Department and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and fulfills all responsibilities of a full-time Lecturer as defined in the Stevenson University Policies and the SHSS Full-Time Faculty Job Description.

Education/Experience:

Master’s degree in psychology is required, doctoral degree in psychology with a specialty area in an applied area of psychology, such as forensic, school, sport, industrial/organizational psychology, or health psychology is strongly preferred. One or more years of experience teaching at the graduate or undergraduate level as primary instructor with full responsibility for course development and delivery and a strong commitment to quality instruction preferred.

Experience teaching courses in their specialty area, quantitative and qualitative research methods, behavioral statistics, and data analysis using SPSS as well as experience teaching writing in psychology, including APA style and formatting and/or information literacy, at the undergraduate level preferred. Experience advising undergraduate students in psychology about careers and professional development preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, and repetitive motions. Works in science laboratories and will be exposed to chemicals, biologicals, chemical processes, magnetic field and scientific equipment/instrumentation. Daily work with computers, monitors, copy machines and other office equipment is required. Close visual acuity. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions. Position requires additional hours for meetings and events, including occasional evenings and weekends

Essential Functions:

Teach core courses such as Introduction to Psychology, Writing in Psychology, Experimental Design and Analysis or Behavioral Statistics, as well as topics courses related to area of specialty, as assigned.
Maintain teaching effectiveness by encouraging active student learning, reflecting and responding to student evaluations of teaching, and adjusting teaching strategies per recommendations from classroom observations and supervisor evaluations.
Teaching responsibilities include preparing for and delivering classroom instruction; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing course materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group projects; producing and evaluating written examinations and paper assignments; evaluating presentations; supervising independent study projects, developing and supervising experiential learning activities inside and outside the classroom. Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening and/or Saturday classes as needed.
Other responsibilities include writing and/or updating syllabi each semester or term; reading and responding to emails; grading course work in timely fashion; submitting mid-term and final grades, attendance verification, academic alerts, and other reports as requested; and alerting appropriate university personnel to student concerns on a timely basis.
Maintain and improve competence in subjects being taught
Provide timely feedback to students via assignments and exams.
Hold office hours (minimum of 3 hours per week).
Provide quality advising services to students, including time spent providing students with support, resources, and/or recommendations regarding, academic, curricular, career and/or graduate school matters.
Contribute to student recruitment, retention, and registration efforts; attend departmental meetings; participate in Open Houses and recruiting efforts; attend and participate in planning and coordination of departmental events; and establish professional relationships to generate internship and full-time placement opportunities for students.
Meet with students as related to instructional activity.
Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly.
Participate in the assessment activities of the Department, School, and University.
Attend all convocations, including convocation and commencement exercises.
Engage and participate in the life and work of the departments, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, and Stevenson University; attend school and department events.
Engage in continuing professional development related to the field and pedagogical best practices.
Participate in general curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental, SHSS, and University activities.
Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly and/or as requested.
Serve in a collegial fashion and in accordance with professional and ethical principles when dealing with other faculty members, students, administrators, and members of the public.

Attend professional conferences, workshops, or meetings to maintain currency in area of academic interest.
Complete trainings and other professional development as assigned.
