The Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA) in Curtis, NE, is seeking candidates for a 9-month teaching position in the Agribusiness Management Systems program. This 100% teaching appointment will be hired as a Lecturer or Open Rank Professor, depending on the candidate’s level of education. Those possessing a graduate-level degree in the appropriate discipline will be considered for an open rank professor position, a full-time, promotable, non-tenure track appointment. Those in possession of a graduate degree outside the discipline area or an undergraduate degree in the appropriate discipline will be considered for a lecturer position, a full-time, non-promotable, non-tenure track appointment that will be renewed annually. If hired as a lecturer, the incumbent possessing an undergraduate degree will be expected to make satisfactory progress toward and complete a master’s degree within the discipline area or, if holding a master’s degree outside the discipline area, will be required to complete 18 graduate hours in business. As part of the Nebraska benefits package, the University of Nebraska offers tuition remission for full-time employees, up to 15 credit hours per year.

 

This position is located in Curtis, NE, 200 miles west of Lincoln, NE. This position would be available to start on or before August 19, 2024. Opportunities exist for additional summer funding through summer course instruction.

 

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Use excellent communication skills to provide creative, innovative, applied, and problem-based education methodology for a variety of agribusiness foundational courses, including but not limited to management, accounting, economics, ag finance, entrepreneurship, and retail and ag marketing, as needed.
  • Develop and teach Agribusiness courses within the Agribusiness Management Systems major, including developing and updating course outlines, lesson plans, presentations, and course materials for both lecture and laboratory formats.
  • Course development and other duties, as assigned.
  • Contribute to the service and outreach duties of the program in advising, recruiting, and faculty and student organizations.
  • Create interest and grow the Agribusiness Management program through recruitment and retention of students.
  • Develop and teach interactive distance education courses as needed.
  • Accept committee assignments, attend department and college meetings, assume reporting responsibilities, oversee clubs, teams, and extracurricular activities, and other special ad hoc assignments as requested at the administrative unit, college/division, institute, and/or university level.
  • Assist with recruiting, publicity, and facility tours for prospective students.


Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Agribusiness, Business, Economics, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution (open rank professor). Master’s must be completed by the start date. OR Master’s degree in another discipline or bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline (lecturer). If hired as a lecturer, the incumbent will be expected to make satisfactory progress toward and complete a master’s degree within the appropriate discipline.
  • Proficiency with computer technology applications in the teaching environment.
  • Excellent communication skills. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters or Doctorate in agricultural education, business, or another related discipline.
  • Previous high school agricultural education teaching experience.
  • Evidence of applied teaching or extension experience in an ag-related industry.
  • Successful experience facilitating student engagement through student clubs and agribusiness teams.
  • Experience with learning management systems.
