Job Summary/Basic Function
The Department of Health and Human Performance at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) distance Education faculty position (#355110) at the rank of Lecturer in Leisure and Sport Management. This is a one-year temporary appointment with a possible annual renewal for up to three years. The start date for the appointment is August 1, 2023. The position is contingent upon funding.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and instruct online Leisure and Sport Management Program courses. Therefore, all candidates are expected to demonstrate the following: relevant teaching experience in undergraduate recreation, sport, parks, or leisure services management curricula; a commitment to excellence in teaching; an ability to develop effective rapport with students and colleagues; and experience and proficiency with the design and delivery of online coursework and curricula.
The position requires the online lecturer to be regularly and predictably available to online students in class and during office hours. The posted online office hours should be the same number of hours as required of full-time lecturers teaching on-campus courses. The selected candidate must be a resident of Tennessee and must occasionally meet with the department chair or MTSU administrators. Travel expenses are the responsibility of the faculty member. Before beginning online courses, the lecturer must receive the appropriate training to teach online classes for MTSU.
Required Education
An earned Master's or PhD in recreation, sport, parks, leisure services management, or a closely related field is required.
Other Desirables
Applicants with a terminal degree or two years of curricular expertise in two or more of the following: sport management, outdoor recreation management, community recreation management, youth development, or the study of leisure behavior, and those with two years of managerial experience in the recreation, sport, parks, or leisure services industry will receive special consideration.
