Growth and Retention Performance Strategist
McClatchy and The Sacramento Bee are looking for a Growth & Retentions Performance Strategist. The Growth & Retention Performance Strategist will oversee a portfolio of clients that invest in McClatchy digital marketing channels inclusive of, but not limited to, search engine marketing (SEM), programmatic advertising (display and video), geofence advertising, social media advertising (Facebook/Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.), and additional paid media channels that are a part of the McClatchy channel mix.
This role will be responsible for optimizing, retaining, growing, and servicing the clients in their portfolio, across all tactics, with a focus on paid media, while also providing cross-team collaboration and peer-to-peer support of the internal client-facing teams. The Growth & Retention Performance Strategist will be the strategic lead for their client accounts, providing execution, management, and ongoing optimization guidance, instructions, and strategy to McClatchy’s fulfillment partners and vendors. You will analyze client performance, draw conclusions on investment and targeting effectiveness based on performance data, facilitate the optimization of budgets, targeting, tactics, and execution with our vendors, and provide strategic insight and support to your cross-team partners. The Paid Media Specialist will need to have superior prioritization skills, the ability to manage a large portfolio of clients, be hardworking and have a gritty, get it done attitude.
The anticipated base pay range for this position is between $70,000 and $85,000 annually. Individual base pay may vary within that range depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, relevant education, department equity, training, geography and local wage and hours laws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the marketing investment, performance and day-to-day success of a large portfolio of digital advertising clients
- Work hand-in-hand with external fulfillment vendors and partners, sales, and the clients to achieve performance goals
- Primary facilitator of client onboarding and setup/configuration of all tactics, channels, and tracking & reporting
- Take ownership of client success and performance by looking beyond your primary marketing discipline by performing holistic marketing analysis, collaborating cross-channel, and making recommendations based on data and performance
- Ensure quick and flawless launches of new and incremental accounts and campaigns to drive revenue recognition and growth, inclusive of using using multiple systems and following various processes
- Provide ongoing, strategic guidance to internal partners, external vendors, and clients via video conferences for search engine marketing, programmatic advertising, social media marketing, and service-based advertising campaigns
- Collaborate with and provide insight to internal partner teams (sales, media strategy, etc.) via video conferences to ensure a high rate of client retention and growth
- Continually provide recommendations for growing client budgets and expanding client targeting to additional digital marketing channels
- Contribute to the ongoing development of fulfillment processes, procedures, and approaches to ensure the division maintains a high level of throughput, efficiency, and effectiveness
- Maintain client budgets within a minimal margin of error constantly resulting in limited underspend, overspend, or makegood
- Become an expert with internal and external tools, platforms, software, and dashboards
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Successful candidates will have a lean-forward, performance-marketing mindset, a clear POV on what is needed to drive performance, and a curiosity for what’s ahead in the marketing and media industry
- Expert knowledge of at least one or a combination of the following disciplines: Search Engine Marketing, PLA/Shopping Campaigns, Programmatic Display, Programmatic Video, OTT/CTV, Geofence Advertising, Native Advertising, and Paid Social Media Advertising
- Advanced knowledge of and ability to quickly and effectively calculate and analyze cost-driven KPI inclusive of CPC, CPM, CPA, CPP, CPS, ROI, ROAS, LTV, and others
- Ability to prioritize and to work under and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, data-driven work environment
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and team player skills. Excellent communication and active listening skills
- Ability to interact professionally and build relationships with internal and external teams, vendors, partners, and resources
- Superior written, verbal, and illustrative communication skills
- Computer proficiency (MS Office, Google Workspace, etc.)
- Ability to work a flex schedule including nights and weekends when absolutely necessary
- Must be able to work remotely while contributing to a team environment, must be able to self-motivate, stay focused, and complete assignments with minimal supervision
- Regular and reliable attendance
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university, or the equivalent education, experience, skills and knowledge needed to do the job.
- 5+ years of related marketing and advertising strategy, fulfillment, and execution experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired qualifications:
- Experience building, managing, and/or optimizing Google or Bing Ads campaigns inclusive of search, display, and remarketing
- Experience building, managing, and/or optimizing YouTube campaigns within the Google Ads environment
- Demonstrated experience in collaborating with sales professionals, clients, and 3rd party vendors via phone call or video conferencing
- Experience building, managing, and/or optimizing programmatic display, video, OTT/CTV campaigns using a demand-side platform
- Experience building, managing, and/or optimizing geofence advertising campaigns
- Experience utilizing data management platforms and tools to target 0P, 1P, and 3P audience segments
- Hands-on experience following an order entry, submission, QA, and completion process
- Experience managing, communicating with, and executing digital marketing campaigns through third-party vendors and partners
- Track record of managing a high volume of requests, clients, and digital marketing campaigns with high accuracy and low error rates
- Ability to communicate complex insights and ideas effectively and in an action-oriented manner to various internal and external resources
