Boom Truck Operator

Salary Range: $34,473.30 - $36,559.95
Scope: This position operates a Knuckle Boom Loader and Solid Waste Truck to assist in the collection of solid waste and recyclable material. This position is distinguished from that of the Truck Driver due to the complexity of operating the Knuckle Boom loader and the frequency of visits to multiple sites.
Required Hours of Availability:
6:00 AM - 6:00 PM; Rotating Weekends
Example of Duties Performed:
• Operates a Solid Waste Truck to transport the knuckle Boom Loader and materials from all disposal sites on a daily basis
• Operates a Knuckle Boom Loader to pack down and combine containers at disposal sites.
• Cleans and maintains grounds at disposal sites.
• Assists with the removal of brush/ weeds and tree limbs
• Identifies hazardous material.
• Transports recyclable material to a central location or recycling center. Makes additional stops as needed.
• Inspects vehicles and equipment before use, checks equipment for damage or other problems at the end of the day.
• Assists in the repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.
• Observes dumping for compliance and explains regulations to public.
Summary of Qualifications:
• Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of a valid Commercial, Class A or B, driver's license issued by the State of Alabama.
• Sufficient clarity of Speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to communicate and understand department and safety rules and regulations and work around high traffic areas.
• Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to work safely in heavy traffic and heavy equipment operations.
