The Guilford Technical Community College Apprenticeship Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating apprenticeship opportunities to support local business and industry needs. The Apprenticeship Coordinator is responsible for supporting student success, responding to student needs, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty, staff, and external partners and supporting college administrative requirements.

Under general supervision, this individual will develop and expand the apprenticeship program. The coordinator will also be responsible for recruiting students and collaborating with industry partners to ensure relevancy of the curriculum and program.


• Work collaboratively with internal and external apprenticeship partners, including Workforce Boards, Economic Development Directors, Career/Technical Education personnel, and industry partners.
• Promote the program to potential apprenticeship students collaboratively with industry, community college, and k-12 partners.
• Communicate regularly with program staff/faculty in regards to course schedule, curriculum needs, student enrollment, etc.
• Coordinate and provide oversight to work-based learning experiences.
• Facilitate the development, implementation, and assessment of pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship programs in partnership with local companies to increase the pipeline of youth apprentices, adult apprentices, and skilled workers in the College service area.
• Coordinate with deans, department chairs, faculty, and continuing education staff to develop and implement courses and programs tailored to meet the training and development needs of companies related to areas of job creation, productivity enhancement and deployment of technology.
• Develop apprenticeship pathways in accordance with college and state guidelines.
• Facilitate processes to ensure compliance with college policies and procedures.
• Assist in the development of marketing strategies and materials to publicize apprenticeship programs.
• Represent the college in the community and during functions affiliated with business/ industry, corporate training and workforce development.
• Establish and/or grow partnerships with stakeholders within the college and the community, especially as related to corporate training and apprenticeships in Guilford County.
• Engage with state and national associations to promote apprenticeship and emulate apprenticeship programs that fit the college’s service area.
• Participate in college meetings/events.
• Perform other duties that support the mission, vision, values and initiatives of the college.
• Demonstrate and model the College’s employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

Difficult Challenges Contacts Education Required

Bachelor’s degree in a career and technical program OR an Associate’s degree in a career and technical program and a Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.

Education Preferred

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.

Experience Required

• 2 years of relevant work experience in a business/industry setting.
• Experience coordinating a complex program/project that involved multiple partners.
• Teaching and/or industry training experience in a career and technical field.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook).

Experience Preferred

• More than 2 years of relevant work experience in a business/industry setting.
• Experience coordinating/directing an apprenticeship program.
• Experience with development of career/technical curriculum or apprenticeship pathways.
•Experience with integrated student information systems (e.g., Datatel, Colleague, Banner, etc.)

KSA Required

• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships between education, business and industry.

The Coordinator, Apprenticeship shall possess an understanding of and commitment to the nature and role of the Community College, particularly its “open door” policy. He/she shall have demonstrated personal and professional competence for the responsibilities assigned. The Coordinator, Apprenticeship must be able to:

KSA Preferred Department/Job Specific Requirements

The following (compliance) training is required and must be completed within the first 30 days of hire with annual refresher training thereafter:

• Other training may be required as determined applicable.
