Development Manager

Since 1991, FAMM has helped secure some of the most important sentencing reforms at the federal and state level, including the federal First Step Act of 2018, as well as efforts to repeal or reform drug mandatory minimum sentences in Michigan, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Florida, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Georgia, California and Iowa. The defining characteristic of FAMM's advocacy remains its emphasis on the human cost of counterproductive sentencing and prison policies. For more than three decades FAMM has shared the stories of families and individuals directly affected by these policies and advocated for more cost-efficient and humane approaches to protecting public safety.
In support of this work, FAMM is seeking a Development Manager. This role will be responsible for all aspects of our annual fund as well as special campaigns. You will support our Executive Director in executing plans for major donors and Vice President of Family Engagement and Mobilization in managing the development part of database (EveryAction) and making sure our grants plans are properly tracked.
The ideal candidate has a passion for advancing criminal justice reform and at least 3 years of experience in a Development role, with extensive knowledge of EveryAction, our current database. The salary range for this role is $70,000-90,000.
Position Tasks
Annual Fund
- Leading team to create strategies for all campaigns during the year including Giving Tuesday, end of year, Father's Day, and Mother's Day campaigns and potentially a campaign specifically for lawyers
- Writing all email, social media, and mail appeals for the campaigns, with input from other staff
- Creating a retention and stewardship strategy for donors, including annual drives for recurring donors
- Setting and meeting revenue, new donor, and retention targets
Major Donors and Grants
- Assisting Executive Director in tracking stewardship and solicitation of gifts over $5,000 and individually holding a portfolio of donors under $5,000, including solicitation and stewardship
- Supporting the writing of grant proposals, alongside Executive Director
- Managing both the grants and moves management plans in EveryAction, including updating ask amounts, putting in dates for deadlines and grant reports, inputting target ask dates, uploading all grant proposals and agreements, and more
- Making sure that all major donors and foundations are up to date in EveryAction and informing key staff of next steps
- Updating the Executive Director and other key staff on the lapsed status of donors and when large dollar donors have given their gifts
- Uploading notes from donor and foundation meetings into EveryAction
Donor Database Management
- Inputting all donations into EveryAction and ensuring accuracy of gifts and other data in the database
- Regularly running reports, deduplicating, and creating lists for development
- Writing and uploading all stewardship letters into EveryAction
- Running stewardship letters on a weekly basis, including non-tax letters for attributions
- Creating automations for lapsed donors, new donors, and donors whose recurring donation methods are about to expire
Prefered Qualifications
- 3+ years in a development role that interfaces regularly with a database
- Annual fund writing and strategy experience, including email, mail, and social media
- Demonstrated experience working in our database, EveryAction, including managing gift entry, stewardship of gifts, and automations
- Grants and major donor coordination experience, with a preference for someone with knowledge of EveryAction's Grants and Moves Management tools
- Attention to detail and self-management skills
