Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Government at Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor position for Academic Year 2024-2025. Applicants should hold an earned master's degree plus 30 Graduate hours in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Affairs, or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment. The position begins August 2024.

The position serves majors in the department. It requires expertise in American Government and evidence of, or potential for, high quality teaching with the ability to teach fully online courses. The successful candidate will teach courses that include, but may not be limited to, Introduction to American Government courses, and possibly facilitate other Political Science courses, in a 15-hour per semester annual teaching load.

The Department of Government houses undergraduate majors in Political Science, Paralegal Science, Economics, Globalization, and International Affairs.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Earned master's degree plus 30 Graduate hours in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Affairs, or a closely related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.

    Job Duties:
    • Maintain a 15 hour per semester teaching load, teaching courses as assigned at the times and in the locations necessary to meet the needs of EKU students
    • Utilize effective teaching methods, innovative teaching techniques, and teaching modalities, and multiple evaluation and assessment procedures as a means to help meet the needs of EKU students
    • Demonstrate the ability to teach, develop, and implement courses related to one's curricular area
    • Demonstrate the willingness and ability to work effectively with colleagues to support the mission of EKU, its academic units, and its campus community
    • Demonstrate respect for and support EKU's diverse campus community and student population
