Each group requires a group facilitator with a master’s degree in special education, social work, psychology or a related field (preferred), experience working with groups and with people with developmental disabilities. The Facilitator/ Activities Supervisor is responsible for:
- Curriculum development and planning for weekly discussion groups in coordination with the Executive Director
- Assuring the safety and well being of members of the group at the discussion groups and at activities
- Supervision and management of group activities
- Attendance at all staff meetings
- Providing appropriate group management which allows and encourages all people to
participate in group discussions
- Positive reinforcement to group members that demonstrate appropriate behavior
- Supporting of all group members and assisting them on achieving their personal goals set in conjunction with the member and the Facilitator
- Helping group members appreciate and understand the differences in people
- Observing group members and encouraging members with additional needs to
utilize appropriate resources
- As assigned by the Program Assistant or Executive Director, the Facilitator/ Activities Supervisor will go on specific trips with another Facilitator and supervise the members on the trip.
Position also includes supervision of Assistant Group Facilitator/Interns by:
- Preparing/training the assistant in the group curriculum
- Providing direction for his/her role in group interactions and supervision
- Providing feedback about his/her performance, group interactions, leadership and
individual interactions
